French international school Pondicherry

Discover our school

Since its creation in 1826, the Lycée Français International de Pondichéry has worked to develop an education of excellence directly linked to the search for innovative practices and openness to the world. Originally reserved for French children, today it welcomes students from a wide variety of backgrounds, languages and cultures that enrich the educational heritage.

This quality teaching is made possible by a practice that puts the student at the center of the system and by a team of highly qualified professionals. Although French is the official language of the school, English is widely spoken, as well as Tamil, German and Spanish.

With almost two hundred years of existence, we are one of the oldest schools in the country, educating students who are considered future adults in the making and who develop particularly efficient work attitudes with a 100% success rate in exams.
Students follow the French academic program with a strong international dimension due to its affiliation with the network of French schools abroad established in nearly 140 countries. The international dimension of the school will soon be reflected in the introduction of a bilingual or trilingual French International Baccalaureate, depending on the students’ choice.

In addition to subject matter, we focus on physical, emotional and social development by encouraging our students to think freely, to confront their knowledge with the reality of everyday life and to behave as responsible international citizens.

Our pedagogy

The AEFE (Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Etranger) network, of which the Lycée Français International de Pondichéry is a part, is internationally recognized for the quality of its pedagogical practices and for its constant quest for excellence.

This network, which is distinguished and unique by its size (more than 540 schools) and its geographical distribution (139 countries), maintains a unity that brings each school closer together through its academic and pedagogical permanence. This uniqueness of practice is based on the academic dimension, but also on the concern for the well-being of students and their individual development. The concepts of freedom, secularism, autonomy, citizenship, and respect for others are the strong points underlying the education transmitted to students.

Enrolled from a very young age (3 or even 2 years old), the students of our institution complete their entire education at LFIP and develop their own identity and a strong sense of belonging. The teams of professionals who welcome them have developed teaching practices that take into account the multilingual and intercultural dimensions that characterize our school.

Our students build their autonomy in an environment and through an educational process based on humanistic values. At the end of their studies, they have all the academic, social and personal skills needed to pursue a quality university career in France or abroad.

Meet our teachers

The teachers who make up the academic teams have different backgrounds and come from diverse cultural origins but have in common French as the official language of the school.

Their knowledge of French programs and their desire to teach according to the principles of our educational system make them worthy representatives of LFIP. Rich in diversity, they work as a team to bring their knowledge and skills to our students.

Their responsibility does not end with the dissemination of academic knowledge, they accompany their students on the path of citizenship to prepare them to become responsible adults. And to make each of them a conscientious and successful future student.
