This Friday morning, the students of the small section of kindergarten of LFIP had the opportunity to participate in a very special cooking workshop. All the children gathered to prepare a delicious galette des rois!
To make this traditional recipe, the children first had to learn the preparation steps. They mixed sugar, 2 eggs, almond powder and butter to obtain a homogeneous paste. Then, they spread this preparation between 2 puff pastries and placed a hidden bean in it.
The galette des rois was then put in the oven for a cooking of about twenty minutes. During this time, the children learned the story of this traditional recipe that is celebrated in France to celebrate the Epiphany. They learned that the bean inside the cake is supposed to represent a tradition and whoever finds it in his share is crowned “king” for the day.
When the galette des rois was taken out of the oven, it smelled deliciously good! The children were able to taste their creation in all serenity and enjoy this delicious dessert.
This cooking workshop was a real success! The children learned how to prepare a traditional French recipe while having fun and discovering new things. We hope that this experience has inspired them to continue their culinary exploration and that it will help them develop their taste for good food. Bon appétit little kings!
