Learning Tamil and its culture!

At the French International School of Pondicherry, Tamil, the vernacular language of Pondicherry and of the state of Tamil Nadu, is compulsory at the primary school level. By learning this ancient language (over 2,000 years old), our students also discover Tamil habits and customs. The Pongal festival in mid-January and the Tamil New Year festival in mid-April give students the opportunity to immerse themselves in local tradition by carrying out related activities in their Tamil lessons.

For example, the kindergarten and elementary students had fun making kolams with their teacher during Pongal. Some opted for more traditional designs, while others let their imagination run wild!
