As part of the HLP (Humanities, Literature and Philosophy) Festival organized by the Agency for French Education Abroad, the 12th grade students specializing in HLP at the French International School of Pondicherry took part in an educational project combining literature, philosophy, and cinema.
Held during the Week of the French Language and Francophonie, this event highlights innovative teaching practices and encourages exchanges between schools in the French network abroad.
The Humanities, Literature and Philosophy specialization invites students to explore the major questions shaping our societies by combining perspectives from literature and philosophy. It develops their analytical skills, critical thinking, and ability to argue effectively.
Within this framework, the students worked on a project entitled:
“Studying the philosophical issues of artificial intelligence through its cinematic representations.”
This exploration of contemporary issues is also achieved through an examination of the great classical texts. Thus, drawing on foundational texts, such as those by Lucian of Samosata and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, as well as major works of cinema, they explored the relationship between humans and machines.
The project notably relied on Ciné-Philo sessions, during which students presented major films and led discussions with the audience. These moments of collective reflection made it possible to address complex questions in an accessible way: the limits of technology, the place of consciousness, and human responsibility in the face of innovation.
As a continuation of this work, students were invited to express, orally, their understanding and personal engagement with the concepts studied.
Listen to our students:
These presentations demonstrate their ability to engage with contemporary issues and to develop a personal reflection informed by the works studied.
Through this project, students were encouraged to question the often spectacular representations of artificial intelligence in order to better understand its real, ethical, and social implications.
The participation of the French International School of Pondicherry in this festival fully reflects the ambition of the HLP curriculum: to train students capable of understanding the contemporary world, combining disciplines, and expressing themselves with rigor and critical thinking.
